What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a remarkable path to parenthood, where a woman carries a baby on behalf of individuals or couples who are unable to conceive or sustain a pregnancy on their own. In the United States, gestational surrogacy is the most widely practiced type of surrogacy, in which the surrogate carries an embryo created using the egg and sperm of the intended parents or donors.

Becoming a surrogate is an incredibly selfless act—one that changes lives forever. It’s a heartfelt decision that helps bring the gift of family to those who long for it, reflecting deep compassion, generosity, and a truly extraordinary spirit of giving.

Gaining a clear understanding of the surrogacy process can help you feel empowered and ready for the journey ahead—and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Our experienced team is always available to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have. With our ultra-fast matching process averaging just 4 weeks, you’ll be connected with your intended parents quickly. While every journey is unique, here’s an overview of what you can generally expect:

  • Step One: Getting Started with Surrogacy: Your journey begins with our comprehensive intake process where we get to know you and answer your questions about surrogacy. We’ll guide you through questionnaires, conduct an interview, and review your medical history including pregnancy records. You’ll complete basic lab work and a psychological evaluation, and we’ll review any questions you may have.
  • Step Two: Finding Your Perfect Intended Parent Match: Once screening is complete, LifeBridge Surrogacy presents you with intended parent profiles that match your preferences. After reviewing profiles and expressing interest, we’ll arrange an introduction meeting where you and the intended parent(s) can get to know each other. Following a successful match, you’ll visit a fertility clinic for a comprehensive medical evaluation.
  • Step Three: Protecting Your Rights: LifeBridgeSurrogacy can connect you with an independent attorney who specializes in reproductive law and represents your interests. This attorney can explain your rights and help negotiate your Gestational Carrier Agreement. Every aspect of the surrogacy arrangement will be clearly outlined in the contract, ensuring your interests are protected.
  • Step Four: Medical Preparation and Embryo Transfer: You’ll begin a monitored medication protocol to prepare your body for embryo transfer, with regular blood work and ultrasounds. When ready, you’ll undergo the embryo transfer procedure. Follow-up appointments will confirm pregnancy and monitor early development.
  • Step Five: Your Surrogate Pregnancy Journey: You’ll receive prenatal care from your chosen provider while staying in close communication with your LifeBridge Surrogacy specialist. We provide ongoing support and resources throughout your pregnancy, and encourage you to lean on your support system. With our 24/7 dedicated support, you’ll have peace of mind knowing help is always available.
  • Step Six: The Ultimate Reward: Delivery day arrives – the culmination of everyone’s hopes and dreams. You’ll witness your intended parents meet their baby for the first time, making the entire journey worthwhile.
